Publisher's Synopsis
Drawing on preliminary research on invalid care allowance (ICA) as well as previous research on related issues already completed by the Social Policy Research Unit, this study focuses on: the effects of caring on carers' incomes and savings; the extent to which ICA alone or in combination with other benefits meets the financial needs of carers; the incidence of problems of targeting caused by linkages between benefits and their consequences for carers' incomes; the extent of carers' knowledge of ICA, their knowledge of ICA in relation to other benefits, and the process of deciding to claim the Allowance.
