This is the sixty-sixth report of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction of Michigan and the second of the present administration.
To those who look upon governmental publications as the fulfilling of a mere perfunctory duty required by law to be performed by the various heads of departments this volume will have little value. To the student of current educational history it is hoped that the present report will be worthy of a place alongside of those which have preceded it. When the history of education in Michigan is written the valuable reports of Superintendents Pierce, Sawyer, Comstock, Mayhew, Shearman, Greg ory, Hosford, Briggs, and the long line of worthy successors to those early pioneers in education will be consulted, and that examination will reveal the gradual evolution of our school system as nothing else will.
