Publisher's Synopsis

Six Cups of Persistence is an inspiring coming-of-age story, based on the real-life saga of a young Armenian boy's 30-year quest to find family, freedom, and success in a hostile world. Kacho Kachadourian enjoys the life of a typical twelve-year old boy living in Eastern Turkey in 1915, until the day soldiers arrest his father for treason. Then his whole world is shattered. A week later, his peaceful Armenian village of Dzovk becomes a killing field. Men and boys are taken away at gunpoint or summarily executed by soldiers. Gendarmes begin rounding up women and girls, enforcing a government-ordered deportation, and driving them out of the village in forced marches. To avoid certain slaughter, Kacho and his younger brother are sent into hiding in a neighboring village, posing as children of a Kurdish family. But after six years of hardship and isolation, Kacho makes the decision to find the surviving members of his family at any cost. Leaving his brother behind and the relative safety of the Kurds, he begins a dangerous odyssey alone, confronting countless challenges and his worst fears, on a journey spanning three decades across three continents.
