Publisher's Synopsis

This text is intended to give a general introduction to Sinhalese, the language spoken only in Sri Lanka, in a form which can be used, if necessary, without a teacher. To aid this end, five C60 cassettes are also available to accompany the book.;The book is divided into 33 lessons. Each lesson contains two exercises for practice, the first in translation from Sinhalese into English, the second in translation from English to Sinhalese. Suggested translations are given at the end of the book. The book is written in romanized script, but the first 17 lessons contain a graded scheme of instruction in the Sinhalese script. Also included in the book are some incidental notes about life in Sri Lanka in general.
