Publisher's Synopsis
This primer and reference covers techniques for computer simulation of sedimentary basins, and interpretation of such models for projecting ore, gas and water reserves. Content focuses on the translation of descriptions of sedimentary processes or depositional systems into dynamic models - physical-mathematical descriptions of changes in important geological variables. It shows how to obtain numerical solutions to sets of differential equations that have been transformed into finite-difference approximations; how finite-difference approximations can be represented by FORTRAN code and how the solutions can be displayed graphically; how components representing individual processes can be linked to create more complete sedimentary depositional systems; and how different simulation experiments can be used in interpreting ancient stratigraphic sequences.
