Throughout its range, white fir may be found growing on soils derived from a variety of parent materials such as andesite, dacite, diorite, latite, rhyolite, basalt, granite, pumice, sandstone and shale. The deeper and more permeable soils, when supplied with ade quate moisture, are most conducive to good growth.
