In the first part of this labour he has been preceded by Miss Rouse Boughton, who transcribed and translated the record down to the year 1648, and also appended an index up to that date, i. E., from 1538 to 1648. It is to be regretted that the record, which begins even before Cromwell's injunction for the keeping of Parish Registers, is broken by two short gaps, viz., between 1644 and 1648 and between 1648 and 1656.
