Publisher's Synopsis
This specimen set contains testing material for written language attainment, designed to perform two functions. It provides a survey instrument to measure each child's reading standard in the upper primary school and also a screening instrument to detect children who might need remedial help in reading. In addition, the test produces a semi-diagnostic profile of reading performance for each child. The 75 questions were selected from over 600 calibrated items in the full "Edinburgh Reading Tests" series and cover a wide range, from extremely easy to quite difficult, for average children in the age range ten to 11 years. The screening function is served by a bias in favour of easy questions. Three main subset scores are obtained: vocabulary - 23 items, syntax and sequence - 19 items, and comprehension - 25 items, and these can be recorded on a profile form (supplied with this booklet). There is no time limit for the test, but 40 minutes should be sufficient for all children.
