Publisher's Synopsis
We all have emotional strongholds to contend with and these can imprison us in a state of overwhelming hopelessness. Our hope meters may be running low, or even on empty. So here are 40 short essays on hope to challenge our thinking and inspire us.
It may be viewed as audacious or even outrageous, but we are exploring a hope that claims to endure and triumph in all seasons and circumstances. What if we could lay hold of a hope that is lifeproof, shockproof, crushproof, stormproof, timeproof, waterproof, bombproof, and even deathproof? Who is offering such hope? We want to know their credentials. There are more than enough quacks and scammers around with pop-up hope stalls and fake-it-to-make-it programmes. What of the fields of education, science, philosophy, medicine, psychology, or any other 'ology'; is there anyone who offers such hope? Is there anybody out there?
We all need a hope that is real. But are we looking for hope in a hopeless place? Is it no wonder that hope is either in the ED or ICU when we are constantly served up large helpings of the goulash of doom and negativity from all kinds of people. No wonder we are drowning in the word soup of the gainsayers. We are expected to swallow grand hypotheses and bow before the grandiose architectural edifices to the gods of self and human wisdom, all washed down into our very souls with a poisonous sorbet of hopelessness, the very antithesis of edification and real hope. The best on offer from some is hopeless optimism. We are left empty! This book takes a long look at finding real hope in our fragile world.
