Publisher's Synopsis
The 112 papers collected here are derived from the meeting of the 16th International Symposium of Shock Tubes and Waves held in Aachen in July 1987. The topics of shocks in condensed matter, dusty gases and multiphased media attracted the most contributors, but the application of computational fluid dynamics to shock wave problems was also an important topic. Other areas of interest were chemical processes and related combustion and detonation phenomena, and shock reflection, diffraction, and focusing. Several contributions discussed the medical application of underwater shock focusing to break up kidney and gall stones.
