The monograph is the first comprehensive study devoted to the foreign and domestic policy of the Persian king of the Sassanid dynasty of Shapur I. The book examines the problems of Iran's expansion in Mesopotamia and Syria, Transcaucasia, and also in Central Asia and Afghanistan in the III century. The key events of the Roman-Persian wars of Shapur I are reconstructed. Various aspects of the religious and administrative policies of the early Sassanids, the features of the official art and ideology of Iran of that era are analyzed. The publication is addressed to both experts in ancient history, and all interested in the history of the Ancient East and ancient Rome.
