Aluminum sheets have a variety of uses ranging from aerospace and automotive applications to construction and packaging. The sheet manufacturing facility that we studied produces a wide range of sheet and plate products to customer specifications. These specifications include alloy, width, gauge (thickness), and total weight (or total length). The facility maintains little or no uncommitted finished goods inventory. The main steps in the sheet manufacturing process are ingot casting, hot rolling, cold rolling.
