M. N. Roy had few peers in the diversity of his revolutionary experience. He took a leading part in revolutionary movements in India, Mexico, the Soviet Union, and China, and was founder of the Communist Party of Mexico (1919) and of India (1920). During the twenties he had risen to the highest of the Communist hierarchy (member of the Executive Committee, the Presidium and the Political Secretariat) and was an outstanding theorist and a penetrating and prolific writer.
