This work analyzes the geo-political security situation in East Asia: a region containing several great and medium sized powers (some of which are nuclear armed) and where arms proliferation and war is a very real danger. Hence the importance of confidence building measures; of an institutionalization of regional relations; and of a strengthening of commitments to defensive military strategies and postures. The work contains analyses of the security policies of China, Japan, South Korea, ASEAN and India as well as the role of the United States and Russia.
