Publisher's Synopsis
The National Science Foundation has rendered a useful Science in reprinting Science, the Endless Frontier as part ot its tenth anni\'crsarv observance. The Report, as well as the studies that supported it, represents the collective efforts ot a group of distinguished scientists and other scholars who brought their special experience and knowledge to bear on the problem of establishing a strong research and development effort in the postwar period. Their hndings with respect to the relations of government to science and education merit a re-reading in the light of today's events. Dr. Waterman's Introduction constitutes an effective summary of the extent which the recommendations of Science, the Endless Frontier have been realized during the Fifteen years since it first appeared. I welcome the republication and hope that it will be a genuine serxice to all who have responsibilities for the national effort in scientific research and development. Vannevar Bush
