Publisher's Synopsis
It was agreed in 1990 that ACOST should prepare a strategic review of science and technology issues every three years. The last ten years have seen a major increase in the number of issues which are being dealt with on a European basis, so this report also contains a section which concentrates on issues which are primarily European. A strategic overview of global, European and UK science and technology issues is provided, and ACOST's proposed future work programme for the next two or three years is set out and areas suggested where work might be carried out by other organizations.
