Publisher's Synopsis

The Internet is a vast, largely untapped educational resource - an infinite encylopaedia. This text seeks to help teachers and pupils become effective cybernauts, using the Internet in a directed and meaningful way. The authors provide a teacher-friendly, non-specialist introduction to the Internet and how it works. A series of case studies shows how the Internet can be used in a structured way to support curriculum activities in all subjects. Teachers can replicate the case studies in their classrooms, or use ideas to create projects of their own. A glossary section is provided to help teachers through the galaxy of jargon they will encounter. Activities are compatible with the National Curriculum for England and Wales, Scottish guidelines 5-14 and the Curriculum for Northern Ireland. The book also contains advice on restricting access to appropriate regions of the Internet, so preventing children from reaching damaging material (Acceptable Use Policies, in the jargon).
