The 3rd Infantry Division of the US Army suffered more casualties than any other unit during World War Two. Donald Blackey was one of the lucky few to survive the fight, ranging from North Africa, to Sicily, Italy, France, and Germany from 1942-1945. Along the way, he kept a diary on 3 by 4 inch notebooks hidden in the bottom of his duffel bags. These six notebooks have finally been compiled into a single volume, describing his brushes in the field and at large with FDR, Bob Hope, and Adolf Hitler's china. All the while, pursuing his dreams as an opera singer, performing for the troops and taking lessons from the maestros he meets along the way.
