Excerpt from San Francisco Police and Peace Officers' Journal of the State of California, Vol. 7: November, 1929
As he drew his revolver, Hicks stepped behind a big adding machine, to get what cover was available. His first bullet struck the nearest bandit in the jaw, and he dropped like an ox. The other bandit's gun was spitting bullets, but when he saw his partner fall, he dropped to his hands and knees and scuttled like a rat toward the door.
He was now out of Hicks' range of Vision, but Hicks displayed his cool-headedness. Instead of emptying his pistol promiscuously - as one inexperienced in gun duels might be excused for doing under the circumstances and endangering passersby on the street, Hicks' held his fire until he saw the door of the bank swing Open.
