Publisher's Synopsis

This research aims to describe and explain the social representations of professional identity among Guinean teachers. In order to triangulate the results, the survey was extended to students and the general public (100 for each population), i.e. 300 subjects. The social representations were apprehended with the help of three data collection instruments, including an item classification questionnaire, a scale questionnaire and an evocation questionnaire. The analyses carried out on all the data show a variation in representations between teachers and students on the one hand and the general public on the other. The results obtained from these analyses show that the representations of teachers and students focus on the identity of the "pedagogue" while those of the general public focus on another identity, that of the "transmitter of knowledge". The hypothesis is thus confirmed and the research objective largely achieved.
