Excerpt from Rules of the School Committee and Regulations of the Public Schools of the City of Boston: February, 1877
Sect. 46. No new text-book shall be adopted, except 011 condition that the pupils of the public schools be furnished at such a reduction from the wholesale price as shall be agreed to by the Commit tee ou Accounts, who shall see that this condition is complied with, and that the book is introduced only at the beginning of the school-year.
