A selection of four promotional films by Stanley Russell, celebrating the golden age of Scottish engineering. The first of the four archive titles, 'Men of Iron' (1947), gives an overview of iron propellor manufacture at the Blair Foundry of Andrew Strang and Co, in Hurlford, Ayrshire. The second film, 'A Romance of Engineering' (1938), shows the production of steel components at William Beardmore and Co's Parkhead Forge. The third, 'James Watt' (1959), is about the life and work of the inventor of steam engines, while the fourth, 'Story of a Steel Wire Rope' (1946), provides an illustration of the manufacture of Martin Black and Company's wire ropes.
