Publisher's Synopsis
This research analyses the relevant aspects of sediment transport in irrigation canals and suggests a design and management approach. An assessment of various design parameters that affect the hydraulic and sediment transport performance has been made and a correction procedure for equilibrium sediment transport predictors to include the effect of shear and velocity distribution in non-wide irrigation canals has been proposed. The impact of operation and maintenance on sediment movement has been analysed using a mathematical model SETRIC taking a case study of Sunsari Morang Irrigation Scheme in Nepal.
