Publisher's Synopsis
The purpose of this book is to facilitate better construction in concrete. The coverage for this edition has been widened and it gives a broad as well as a detailed view of concrete as a construction material. However, the form, style, approach and organization of the material in the previous editions has been maintained.;There is much new material on cementitious materials and the durability of concrete under various conditions of exposure, including carbonation and alkali-silica reaction is treated fully. In particular, the behaviour of concrete under the extreme conditions existing in coastal areas of the hot parts of the world is discussed. Other major new topics are: high performance concrete, admixtures, concrete under cryogenic conditions and properties of the aggregate-matric interface.;The book has striven to integrate the various topics so as to show their interdependence in the making and using of concrete. A large part of the book is devoted to the fundamentals of concrete and its properties and it aims to present a closely-knit explanation of the behaviour of concrete, rather than a series of disconnected chapters.
