I felt as if I could swim through the air, it was so thick.
The stained walls and tattered carpet seemed even more unsettling, with the light of day no longer shining through the window. The shadows from the desert night seeped in from every corner. The light from the television flashed and flickered in the darkness. It added a static-filled background noise to the crescendo of my heartbeat as I stared down that hallway. The door with all its locks...it called to me. It whispered my name on a heavy wind. The smell of old, musty house and freshly-spilled alcohol filled my lungs as I breathed. I couldn't tell you my thoughts as I walked down that hallway towards the door with the locks, but still I continued. The door seemed to creak in the darkness. That metal slat at the bottom of the door eyed me from below, and I shook off the uneasy feeling I was getting. I then made a decision that might change my entire existence as I knew it, I took a deep breath and stepped forward. I closed my eyes and phased through the door, and found her on the other side.
