Under such circumstances, and with this spirit existent, when we all feel again as brothers, of the same kindred, it has seemed to us as though the publication of a volume such as we now present, containing as it does, sketches taken from both elements, would be gladly received and highly prized. Our stories have been drawn from a variety of sources, our battle sketches present diverse views of the same condict - Union and Confederate, and full play is permitted to authors on both sides to tell their stories as they deemed meet and correct from their individual standpoints.
