Enfin, si, au pis aller, le régiment restait à la charge de Berne, le trésor était riche, on pouvait sans se ruiner entretenir cette petite armée permanente. Le canton y gagnerait en considéra tion cette troupe pouvait servir à comprimer les sujets rebelles ou a garder la frontière en cas de guerre. Toutes ces raisons bien pesées, le régiment reçut l'ordre de regagner ses foyers.
