Fray Nicol�s Armentia naci� a fines del a�o 1845 en la villa de Bernedo, provincia de Alava, en Espa�a. Empez� sus estu dios en 1857 y de Vizcaya pas� a Francia, en 1860, al objeto de tomar religi�n en un convento de San Francisco. En 1865 pas� al convento de Misioneros, en la ciudad de La Paz, donde se orden� en Abril de 1869.
