Publisher's Synopsis
The Transport Research Laboratory - formerly TRRL - has been involved in the field of bridge aerodynamics since the late 1960s. Work carried out by the laboratory included a programme of full-scale measurements on the Wye, Erskine, Cleddau, Kessock and Severn bridges.;This publication describes the contribution of TRRL to research into different aspects of the interaction between wind and bridges, including loading, response and protection of users. Current theories on the response of bridges to wind are reviewed and applied to a series of UK bridges. The theoretical results are compared to the actual behaviour as obtained from full-scale measurements.
