This report helps planners and attorneys understand takings jurisprudence in light of the U.S. Supreme Court's 1987 trio of important land-use decisions. It summarizes and analyzes each of the cases and comments on its specific relevance to planners. The authors also pose a series of questions that can be used, in conjunction with real estate evaluaion techniques, to determine whether a taking has occurred.
