This is a statistical survey of library provision in further education colleges, including sixth form colleges, in the UK. It covers service provision, finance and staffing, and provides information about the developments in the immediate post-incorporation period.;The research was conducted jointly by The Library Association and The Survey and Statistical Centre at Sheffield Hallam University. Based on survey returns from further education colleges in the UK, this work provides a picture of library provision in this area. Designed to be comparable with the previous survey carried out by The Library Association just prior to incorporation ("College Libraries: A Case for Investment"), it highlights some significant changes and trends with implications for future development, including: the shift towards resource based, student-centred learning; the increasing input of library staff into curriculum delivery; the changing balance between traditional library resources and IT based learning resources; and reductions in funding and the adaptation of internal structures to a strong business orientation.;The survey should be of interest to librarians, college managers and policy makers, and to their counterparts in other sectors and abroad.
