Arguably an environmental approach to the built environment requires more than just the application of sustainable values to the programming and design of buildings. New, alternative solutions are needed to resolve the equation of expansion, space, time, energy and economy. This volume offers such architectural solutions, at the crossroads of theory and practice, wherein the design process becomes a tool for positive change, both socially and environmentally. Current projects by the Philippe Barriere Collective are presented alongside generic case studies which investigate new possibilities for the historical phenomenon of sub-urbanisation.
