Excerpt from Reports of Rating Appeals Heard During 1886-1890 Before the Queen's Bench Division and Court of Appeal, the Assessment Sessions and London Quarter Sessions: With a Digest of the Practice Under the Valuation (Metropolis) Act, 1869, and the Acts Incorporated Therewith
Since the writing of this Book was begun, its scope has been considerably extended. It was originally intended to include among the reports, appeals heard only before the General Assessment Sessions, or the London Quarter Sessions, together with decisions of the Queen's Bench Division or the Court of Appeal on Special Cases stated by those Sessions. The Book would thus have formed a mere continuation of the Reports of Metropolitan Rating Appeals already published. It became, however, apparent to the Editor that reports of decisions of the Queen's Bench Division or the Court of Appeal on Special Cases stated by Sessions outside the Metropolis would be useful, as explaining, limiting, or extending the principles laid down in metro politan cases. Lastly, the Editor determined to include reports of all the cases on the law of rating at the hearing of which he was able to be present.
