Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Reports of Cases Argued and Determined in the Supreme Court of the State of Vermont, Vol. 1: Prepare and Published in Pursuance of a Statute Law of the State
IT is a dictate of patriotism, as well as of piety, to review the state and condition of ourselves, and of our fathers before us, to recount the blessings which have been enjoyed, and the evils which have been suffered, for the great purpose of refor mation and amendment.
TO induce us to do so, and' that we may profit by experience, the same uniform order - the same law of cause and effect, is established in the moral, as in the physical world. But we are so much the creatures of habit, our virtues and our vices alike habitual, that we seldom enter upon such exa amination, with a view to the improvement, either of our dispositions or our circumstances.
