Publisher's Synopsis
This is a direct transcription of IOR/F/4/1926/82649, which is the oldest surviving copy of Dr. Helfer's journal of his travels in the Mergui Archipelago. He made extensive explorations of the islands in 1838-9 as a naturalist for the British East India Company. While collecting flora, fauna, insects, geological samples and other information for the Company, Dr. Helfer created a record of the archipelago in its nearly pristine state.
