Excerpt from Report of the Committee on Qualification of Teachers on the Examinations Held at Locust Street School House, May 29th and 30th, 1863: With the Questions Submitted and the Averages Obtained
Annexed will be found a copy of the Questions submitted, with the Rules observed in conducting the Examination; to which are appended the results, showing the averages of each applicant in the several branches, of study. The Committee decided that Candidates who obtain an average of 70 or over, on the Questions submitted for First and Second Assistants, are entitled to Certificates for the situation of First Assistant in a Grammar School; those who obtain 65, and under 70, on the same Questions, Certificates as Second Assistant; and those who obtain 65 and upwards, on the Questions for Third Assistants, Certificates as Third Assistant. There were 5 applicants for the position of First and Second, and for Third Assistant Teachers in a Grammar School.
