Excerpt from Report of the Board of Commissioners of the Tenth Cincinnati Industrial Exposition: Held in Cincinnati, Ohio, Under the Auspices of the Chamber of Commerce, Board of Trade and Ohio Mechanics Institute; From the September 6, to October 7, 1882
With discouragements from nearly every quarter - with failure feared by many of the staunchest friends of the Cincinnati Ex positions, and after much discussion as to its advisability, the Board of Commissioners commenced their preparations for the Tenth Cincinnati Industrial Exposition. The season was so far advanced before organization was completed, that unusual exertions were called for on the part of the Commissioners. How well they each responded is attested by the marked success of every department, and the general success, - greater than its warmest friends had anticipated.
The Commissioners had no fund on hand with which to pay its expenses, but backed by a generous guarantee fund it bor rowed such money as was needed, and on the opening day had a debt of ten thousand dollars.
