All Federally recognized units and elements of the active National Guard and the personnel in the inactive National Guard of the States, Territories, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, now constitute the National Guard of the United States.
In North Carolina, both Army National Guard and Air National Guard units have been established. They are reserve components for the Army and the Air Force. They are trained, equipped and available for mobilization in national service in the event of emer geney at the call of the President. The Governor is Commander in-chief of the National Guard in the State in time of peace, and can employ the Guard for protection of life and property and the maintenance of order.
