Excerpt from Report Made at the Request of the Raccoon Coal and Iron Company: Giving the Results of Several Examinations, Made on the Lands of the Company
Since the reconnoissances above referred to, other examina tions of these lands have been made, with results of increasing satisfaction. In one of these excursions, I enjoyed the pleasure and advantage, imparted by the companionship of U. P. J ames, Esq., of Cincinnati, a good theoretical and field geologist. Mr. Jmm' conclusions, I was glad to find, in all important particulars, agreed with my own. About the same time, it was my good fortune to meet with Prof. Blair, of the Ohio University, Athens; whose residence within the Mineral Basin, and thorough practical and scientific attainments, im parted to his Opinions the highest value. My conference with this gentleman, also, heightened my confidence in my various examinations and conclusions.
