Publisher's Synopsis
A mysterious force ripped through the battlefield, striking every soldier dead except Lewan, a simple farmhand. Terrified by what he saw and faced with the possibility that magic could be more than just a story, Lewan flees the battle, determined to find answers. Lewan reports the slaughter to his king, but not all those in the castle are shocked to hear the news. Ansrum, the head of a secret organization known as the Watchers, is determined to find and eliminate this new source of magic. And Tae, one of the newly trained Watchers, is eager to prove she can help. Lewan is soon caught up in a complex web of politics, lies, and treachery, all of which test his integrity. Matters are only made worse when Caz, a mysterious man with questionable intentions, appears with his own agenda, claiming he wants to destroy magic. The battle to control this new magical force has begun. But how many will die before Lewan, Ansrum, and Tae can contain it?
