Publisher's Synopsis
In light of emerging economic, social and environmental issues and taking stock of the progress made in aquaculture research and innovation, the Regional Conference on Blue Growth in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea acknowledged aquaculture's key role in achieving food security, employment and economic development in the region. The event set the path for the establishment of a General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) Task Force on a Strategy for the sustainable development of Mediterranean and Black Sea aquaculture. Over 140 representatives of governments and international organizations, delegates, experts and practitioners from 16 Mediterranean and Black Sea riparian countries exchanged experiences and explored cooperation opportunities.
