Publisher's Synopsis
This work examines the use of the target language by ten teachers of German who are preparing their pupils for Key Stage 4. In addition to analyzing the target language (TL) from the teacher's and researcher's standpoint, the book also looks at the pupils' perception of their teacher's use of the TL, and their own language-learning problems.;The following areas are considered, among others: what are the teachers' views on using the TL?; how do older pupils perceive their teachers' use of the TL?; for which parts of the lesson do teachers use the TL and for which English?; which strategies do teachers use to make the language accessible to pupils? The strategies used by teachers in German whose lessons are observed in Chapter 3 could be applied equally to other languages. An English translation of the main examples quoted is therefore provided and should make the book accessible to all modern language teachers.
