Of the number of free and rational enqulrers into the truth and origin of the famefdoetrine's, there are, how ever, in this country, and perhaps alfo in other parts of Chriftendom, a few, a very few, who feeling the irrefift ible weight of evidence, that'arifes from the unquefiion-j able, completion of many fignal prophecies contained-m both the Jewith and Chrifiian fcriptures, find their faith fully confirmed Hi the t1uth and divine authority of both the Mofaic and Chlifiian revelation; although they dare not blafphemou?y deg1ade and mif1eprefent the God they wo1thip, m contradietion to thofe att1ibutes, which both reafon and the exprefs wo1ds of thofe revelations afcribe to the almighty parent of the univerfe; nor ih cur the guilt of that very idolat1 y, which God himfelf fo clea1ly defined and lo formidably prohibited m the fe cond precept of the law miraculou?y given to the Jews, by ereeling the edifice of their 1eligious worlhip and belief upon the above-mentioned fundamental tenets of every ef'tablifhed church, and of almoft every religious feet in Europe.
