Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Reauthorization of the Safe Drinking Water Act: Hearing Before the Committee on Environment and Public Works, United States Senate, One Hundred Third Congress, First Session, May 3, 1993, Providence, Rhode Island
I appreciate the Lieutenant Governor taking the trouble to be here and we look forward to his remarks. What I thought I might do is just make a few comments.
Obviously it is a given that good drinking water is essential to public health. And the contaminants that sometimes occur in drinking water can have serious and widespread effects on health as we certainly know here in the State of Rhode Island. Bacteria and other pathogens in the water like the one that caused illnesses recently in Milwaukee, not only can it be disabling for some but can be life threatening for some who have preexisting problems.
