Publisher's Synopsis

This work shows how to develop software for real-time systems in a systematic manner using both structured and object-oriented methods. It takes the reader through the complete design process, from a statement of requirements to the eventual source code. Example implementations of designs are given here using both Modula-2 and C++, although the techniques are not dependent on any particular language. Following an introductory chapter on real-time design, the book is structured into two distinct parts. The first part introduces all the elements of structured design, a step at a time, using a bottom-up approach. The structured design techniques are based on those devised by Michael Jackson, Yourdon, Meilir Page-Jones and Ward & Mellor. The second part shows how object-oriented techniques can be applied to real-time systems using a top-down approach and is based on the work of Rumbaugh et al, Beck and Cunningham, Harel, Shlaer & Mellor, Booch, Jacobson and Kirk. The book includes a CD-Rom containing two CASE (Computer-Aided Software Engineering) tools from Select Software.
