The City is divided by the Chicago River into three distinct parts, which are known as the North, South, and West Divisions (popularly, North, South, and West State Street, Wabash Avenue, and Michigan Avenue are the main arteries to the South Division. North Clark and Wells streets are the main arteries to the North Division. Van Buren, Madison, Randolph, and Lake streets are the main arteries to the West Division.
