Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Projects for the High School: Sample Materials for Junior and Senior High School
The mental ability of my class is very much below normal. The difference between the physical and mental age is as much as four years in a few cases, and in nearly every case it is almost impossible to arouse interest and to hold it.
We read over the list of industries of New Jersey in class. The children then tried to find all the advertisements of these industries that they possibly could, and brought them to school.
A few boys who do neat hand work printed the names of the manufacturing centers on strips of cardboard, and others posted the advertisements at the back Of the room.
Every member of the class brought in advertisements, and also tried to find some information about the industry advertised. They were very much interested, and were eager to give some thing toward our work.
We found that there were many industries, and that it would be interesting to find the reason for their location, where the raw materials come from, where the finished products find a market, and many similar questions.
We took up all of these industries very briefly. By this time the children were really enjoying themselves, and decided that they would like to take up one industry thoroughly. The Clay Industries of New Jersey was the subject chosen as their project.
