This textbook presents state-of-the-art process integration techniques for various resource conservation activities, ranging from water minimization to utility gas and solid waste recovery. Both process integration tools, insight-based pinch analysis approaches and mathematical optimization techniques, are covered. The insight-based pinch analysis approaches include the well-established graphical and algebraic techniques for setting minimum resource targets ahead of the detailed network design. For mathematical optimization, both superstructural and automated targeting approaches are included. Case studies of particular concepts are included, and select problems are provided with answers. Lecture materials and a solutions manual are provided for university instructors, upon qualification.
