This book's basic scientific attributes are reflected in two ways. First, a strong sense of continuity of effort on the part of the community of pain scientists to understand the somatosensory system in normal and pathological circumstances, and secondly, the emergence of insights into the pathobiology of pain leading to new lines of research.
