These proceedings contain contributions dealing with four main topics: ground improvement and geo-environmental technology; strain localization and interfaces; micro-mechanics of granular media; centrifuge testing and "in situ" measurements for modelling.;The book first presents the papers submitted by each participant describing their perspective on research needs according to their interest and expertise. In the second part, the summary reports of each working group are reproduced: summary of current research activity; identification of problem areas; subjects of highest priority; potential cooperative research projects. The conclusions highlight the results of the discussions and list the suggested and potential cooperative projects between the U.S. and France.
